About Monica Lowe's picture books

Monica Lowe has a master’s degree in social work and likes helping people.  She also likes doodling little cartoon people.  Fortunately, doodling as a past time has paid off and has turned into a side business.

Monica has always enjoyed reading children’s books, and still does as an adult.  Being naturally creative has helped with coming up with different ideas and characters for each book.  She expected to do a series of Roxy in the City.  Turns out that drawing animals’ roller skating and cooking in the kitchen was unexpectedly fun. Monica’s first “unofficial” book was a project in 7th grade.  She illustrated a short story about a pig named Cornelius.  Come to find out, she wanted to publish legitimately later in life. 

She grew up with West Highland Terriers, who are known for being fluffy, adorable and having a very friendly disposition.  Her westie Lexie inspired her to create Cupcake in Roxy in the City. 

Knowing how much people love elephants, the author thought it would be an ideal animal to write about.  Having a character struggle with their insecurities is very relatable.  Libby is big and tall but utilizes her strengths and loves the wonderful elephant that she is. 

The third book published follows a pig named Coco who goes to summer camp and develops a bit of an attitude problem. 

Layla is a hard-working koala who desperately wants to go on vacation and realizes that trips don't always go as planned. 

The newest arrival is a penguin named Blizzard who comes to Arizona. Who says penguins don't belong in 110-degree heat?

California born; Monica has been living in Arizona for the past 18 years.  When she’s not drawing cute cartoon characters, she enjoys going to the mountains in Sedona and visiting the beach in nearby Mexico.
